Privacy Policy - 1099 Assistant

In short: we store the financial records you enter so we can show them back to you, and we do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for advertising. Nobody sees your books unless you invite them.

1. Who we are

1099 Assistant is a tax-tracking tool for US-based independent contractors. This policy covers the website at 1099assistant.com and the 1099 Assistant mobile app.

2. What we collect

Data	Why

3. What we do not collect

We never see or store your card number. Payments are handled entirely by Stripe.
No advertising identifiers, no tracking pixels, no third-party analytics profiling you.
We do not track your location when trip tracking is off.
We do not read your contacts, photos, or files beyond a receipt you deliberately attach.

4. Who your data is shared with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. Data is shared only with the services needed to run the product:

Our email provider	Sending sign-in codes, invitations and account notices
Our hosting provider	Running the servers your data is stored on

We may disclose information if legally required to do so, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

5. Accountant access

You can invite an accountant to view your records. Nothing is shared until you send that invitation and they accept it. Their access is read-only — they cannot add, change or delete anything, and they cannot see your password, payment details or account settings. You can revoke access at any time, and it takes effect immediately.

6. Security

All traffic is encrypted in transit over HTTPS.
Passwords are stored as one-way hashes and cannot be read by us or anyone else.
Every sign-in requires a one-time code sent to your email address.
Receipts are stored outside the public web directory and served only to you through expiring links. You can optionally enable encryption at rest for them.
Repeated failed sign-in attempts lock the account temporarily.

No system is perfectly secure, but we aim to hold only what the product needs and to protect it properly.

7. How long we keep it

Your records are kept while your account is open, because tax records need to be available for past years.
Deleted entries sit in Trash and can be restored by you; emptying Trash removes them permanently.
Sign-ups that are never completed — never verified and never signed in — are removed automatically.
Deleting your account removes your records and receipts. This cannot be undone.

8. Your rights

You can view and edit your information at any time from within the app or website. From Security settings you can export a copy of your data, or delete your account and everything in it. If you are in a jurisdiction with additional rights over your personal data, such as the UK, EU or California, you may exercise them by contacting us.

9. Children

1099 Assistant is intended for working adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

10. Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, notify you by email.
